http://www.nwscnotts.com/useful-info/contacts-directions/

NWSC is the home of some of the most exciting triathlons and open water swimming events to take place in the UK. (The Outlaw, Nottingham Sprint Triathlon, Great Nottingham Swim and the unmissable National Club Triathlon Relays)

Parking:

There is sufficient free parking at the venue in a number of car parks. The closest one is the Main Building/reception. You are reminded to secure all of your property as well as possible. The venue or organisers will not accept any liability in relation to theft or damage.

Facilities:

There is an onsite Café/Bar serving hot drinks/refreshments, along with separate changing rooms/lockers with hot showers.

Information:

Aquathlon is great fun and you don’t have to be ‘super fit’ to take part, in fact you don’t even have to excel at any of the 2 sports individually and that’s the beauty of it. It is also one of the friendliest sports you will come across having a wide range of age and ability but a central focus on participation and enjoyment.

The series will consist of a 750m open water swim in the Regatta Lake followed by one lap 4.86Km run around the lake perimeter road. It’s as simple as that!

The below information is for all of the four events and will also contain rules and conditions of entry. It is important that you thoroughly read this race information, as well as attending the race briefing on the day of each event.

Each race will start after the scheduled Open Water Swim Training for that day. Your entry fee will enable you to use this session to warm up or just recce the event. However if you want to you can just complete the race.

Conditions of Entry:

To be eligible to take part you must be at least 15 years old on or before the 31st December 2011. In addition anyone under 18 years old must have parental permission to take part in the event.

You can pre-register by e-mailing steve@absolutetri.com and sending a cheque or pay cash on the day. On the day entries will also be accepted but please be aware the races will be limited to 100 competitors so pre-registering will guarantee you a place.

All competitors must complete and sign the Open Water Disclaimer and bring this with you to your first event, unless you have already registered for the open water swim training for 2011. To download the parental permission document and/or the Open Water Swimming document please visit www.absolutetri.com

Before entering the water you will be numbered on the back of your hand and counted into the water by the controller. This is to ensure that the organisers are aware of all of the swimmers in the water. On exiting the water you must inform the controller of your number before continuing with the event. If you decide to exit the water before the swim finish then you must make your way down to the controller and inform them that you have exited the water

Swim

The Aquathlon race always starts with swimming. Most athletes use a front crawl for speed, however you will see people in races doing breaststroke which is absolutely fine. Backstroke is not permitted for safety reasons.

Most competitors will wear wetsuits, however if you wish to complete the event in just a swimming costume that’s fine. Please note that the organisers have the discretion to enforce a wetsuit only swim should the water temperature below the set level (as per the BTF rules).

You must wear a brightly coloured swim hat so that you are easily seen in the water. If you get into difficulty you must roll onto your back and raise your hand. Help in the form of a safety boat will then give you assistance.

The swim will consist of a point-to-point straight-line course running close to and parallel to the bank, so you should not have any problems finding your way to the finish!

Transition

Get out of the water and head for your run shoes as quickly and safely as you can (you will have a designated spot/area where your shoes are). Take off your wetsuit off as quickly as you can, put on your shoes, (t-shirt, shorts if you want) and head out of transition. You may find it useful to have a towel by your shoes to dry your feet and to help mark your spot, you will be able to set up your transition area before you start the race, the marshals and race organisers will direct you accordingly.

Please note that nudity is not permitted in transition.

Run

This is the last part of the Aquathlon; if you feel tired take your time, the most important thing is to finish the race. However if you want to win you better get your race head on!

The run is an anticlockwise route around the Lake perimeter road. As you pass through the boat house area do not run through the boat storage area, follow the cones marking the route keeping them to your left at all times. The run will pass under the footbridge and finish along side the transition area.

At the FINISH

There is no electronic timing for this event. Competitors who want to record their times will have to do so in their own way. Times will be shouted out as swimmers leave the water and cross the run finish however these times will not form the basis of the series results.

As competitors cross the line they will be give a token. This will give them their overall placing for that race. You are then to hand your token to the scorer who will record your score.

It is hoped that we will be able to publish the scores on www.absolutetri.com

Example:

If you come 1st you will get number one. This will award you 1 point.

If you come 16th you will get number 16. This will award you 16 points.

Over the four events your best three scores will be added up and the person with the least points is the winner.

Do I need to be ‘super fit’?

The great thing about Aquathlon is that you don’t need to excel at any of the 2 sports individually, you don’t need to be ‘super’ fit but a reasonable level of fitness is a good start. However you must be able to complete the swim distance.  You must consult a GP before embarking on any new fitness regime.
